Jaffar Khorshidi – Web Designer & Information Architect

Preface

Category: Musings

It’s been a long time coming. After spending four consecutive months visualising, designing and building it — my long awaited portfolio is finally here. Welcome to a visual documentary showcasing my selected works.

I wish to first of all thank all of those that have supported me in pushing this site out. There were times when barriers were hit, designs were scrapped out of frustration and emotional spirals — but through it all, these people stood by me and motivated me to carry on. Here I am today, actually writing my first post on a finalised, fully functional website. Thank you.

For those of you that know me and for those of you that don’t, my name is Jaffar Khorshidi and I am a Web Designer & Information Architect. I have been actively involved in the field of web specifically, for the past 9 years. My specialties lie in UI Design, Information Architecture, UX Engineering, Content Management Systems, E-Commerce Platforms, Mobile Applications and SEO.

The purpose of this site is a familiar one — to showcase my works in hope of further progressing my career in design. I have reached a stage in my life where I no longer want to lead the lifestyle I currently have. Dreams can be accomplished, nobody has told me I can’t get to where I want to be. But for the moment, the freelancers way-of-life just doesn’t do it for me anymore. It’s time I made that transition into a full-time web designer working for an established design agency, or as an in-house designer for a corporate company.

Most people that know me picture a dreamer when they come across my name. The closer circle of friends I have label me a realist. I am full of ambition, dreams and hope. But unlike a lot of people, I don’t hang around waiting for it to just happen. Take a look at the sky and the ground in the distance. Though the two are both so far apart, it is only the thin line of the horizon that merges the two together. In the same way, all it takes is one small perception of you to prove whether you end up a dreamer, or a realist. At this moment in time, I believe I am that thin line itself.

There is not much else to say right now, except that in the time we are yet to spend together, you will experience an insight into my thoughts, emotions and journey through life as I take one step closer towards my goals on every new day. Come and join me — the journey is better when I’m not walking alone.

  2. Kashif Amin says:

Well I’ve been there or thereabouts when you started to get into web designing again. And there has been ups and downs, but what a way to comeback. Out of all the designs you have done this is by far the best. Everything from the font to transitions everything is spot on. And this is just the start of something big , the adventure has just started and a new challenger has definitely arrived!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words, Kash. The response so far has been nothing short of amazing!

You have been there from the very start and I’d also like to especially thank you for pushing me to make my comeback during the early days when we initially met. This site and the ones prior to this would not exist had you not convinced me this was what I was set out to do. For that, I thank you sincerely from the heart.

This site in itself is hopefully the beginning of what’s yet to come!

      • Kashif Amin says:

Ah it was my duty as a little bro to help you along the way but seriously proud of how it’s turned out. But most of all I’m glad you have realized this is for you bro and long may it continue!

  3. Ryan Giglio says:

Congrats on the finished product. It’s beautiful. Glad to see the design finally realized.

    • Thank you once again, Ryan. Thank you for all of the pestering you dealt with during the time I started developing this site. I hope I can return the favour one day as promised.

  4. Samit Tailor says:

What can I say? This is just phenomenal. Being there from what I’d like to think the beginning, seeing pretty much al the designs, all the concepts seeing the frustrations, and it all boiled down to this. Its been a long time coming but now that its here, you know you are ready to make that impact in the industry and soon, you’ll take it by storm.

Congratulations on the launch, as your little bro, I am so proud of you, and you should be damn proud of yourself too.

    • The majority of this design was kept in secrecy, but yes, you have pretty much been there from the start and seen me grow as a designer over the years. It has definitely been a long time coming and I too hope my work can be recognised as it used to be when I was at my peak. Thanks for your kind words, Sam. I hope to see you active on here as I update with new posts.

  5. Bilal says:

I can’t wait for more. Welcome back to the web!

  6. Omar says:

I don’t use this word often to describe websites, but your portfolio is *beautiful*!

Well done man, and I wish you the best of luck in achieving your vision.

    • Thanks so much, Omar. It means a lot to me man. Hoping to see you on here more often. It has been a while! Let’s hope this site does act as a stepping-stone and help me progress in achieving my vision.

  7. Sara says:

It has been a long journey, one of which I am privileged to have had an insight in to. I have seen the design from when it was drafted on paper to here as it stands today bounded in all its glory; created with sincerity, love and much care straight from your heart and captivating mind. I am so proud to have been able to be by your side through this whole design process and all its contents.

The outcome achieved clearly speaks for itself and I believe is worth a lot of recognition which I know you will achieve here forth. You are an inspiration to me and my design work, Jaffar Ji and I know you will continue to enthuse other minds with your talents. This is just the beginning. I know you will excel in the web industry as there are much more great works to be seen by you. You have made me so proud with all your efforts. I believe in you.

To finish off, as I have already spoke my mind in person as well – Congratulations on this beautiful, minimal yet sophisticated portfolio. Jaffar ji, you are an amazing designer and I can’t wait to see your forthcoming works! :)

    • A long journey it has been indeed. Thank you for your kind words and more importantly, thank you for all of the support you gave me throughout the build of this portfolio.

You have seen it from the very first sketch, progressively taking shape and function over time (not forgetting the many scrapped designs in the process). Your support and motivation has been valuable and helped push this project through to completion.

There will be more to come. A lot more. I will be sharing with the world any and all future works, be it of a personal or commercial nature — the latter upon completion, of course. Keep an eye out for it all on here.

  8. Abid says:

I want your babies. Let’s get married Jaffar.
